The development of cold storage facilities has also significantly boosted the cold-chain logistics industry, while the latter, in turn, has further fueled the growth of cold storage. The two are closely interdependent. At present, China operates cold storage capacity totaling several million tons for various types of meat. So, how long can a whole duck—commonly referred to as a “white‑striped duck”—be stored in such facilities?

White‑striped ducks can typically be stored in a freezer for up to six months, or even longer. Standard freezer temperatures range from –18°C to –23°C; the lower the temperature, the longer the shelf life—generally, –18°C is sufficient for about six months. For extended storage, the temperature should be even lower. Of course, lower temperatures also increase the cost of the cold storage facility, raising both construction expenses and ongoing operational and maintenance costs. That said, most white‑striped ducks are consumed within two weeks, as poultry meat, unlike pork and other livestock, is best enjoyed fresh.
